|From Nara Prefecture. Junmai Ginjo Nama SMV:+2 Acidity: 1.0
Spring is Nama Season and the nose on this bright sake is filled with many fruity tones from apple and melon to lychee and pear. Harushika is known for making fruity nama sakes and this brew does not disappoint. It's a very fun and bright fruit forward Ginjo that is clean and easy and features a fruit stand of flavors including apple, melon, white grape and pear tones. If you like your namas on the cleaner and not so gooey side then this brew is for you, especially if you like balance without booziness. A pristine unpasteurized sake that drinks like a sunny day.

Koshi no Homare "Shiboritate"
|From Niigata Prefecture. Junmai Nama Genshu. SMV: +4 Acidity: 1.6
The unpasteurized "Nama" and undiluted "Genshu" has a nose filled with steamed rice, green apple, and yeasty bread aromas. Say hello to a nama that drinks ricey! That's the point of a sake libation isn't - to taste some rice! Well, this fat, fun, bright, round and buoyant sake isn't like the rest of the unpasteurized brews that tend to drink on the fruity side. This guy has tremendous balance for an 18% sake and has a very nice flavor field of toasted bread and steamed rice. There is a peek-a-boo crispness and tingle, but the over all flow is smooth with a capital S. A very solid food pairing nama. WORD: Ricey WINE: Dry reds/Big whites BEER: Yeasty Ales FOODS: The kitchen sink! From salty to spicy. $30/720ml
|From Miyagi Prefecture. Tokubetsu Junmai Nama Genshu Nigori SMV: +1.2 Acidity: 1.7
This sake is unfiltered (Nigori), unpasteurized (Nama), and undiluted (Genshu) - the three big "Un's." The nose on this very unique nama is a collection of yogurt, sweet rice, and citrus elements. Talk about a flavorful and exciting nigori sake! Bright and tangy this brew drinks zesty and almost crisp. So many flavors from cherries, citrus, and yogurt to a good old-fashioned Creamsicle are perched on top of 18.5% of pure brashness. The elevated alcohol % dries the fluid over the palate and gives this sake a great personality with a brilliant finish. How can 18.5% taste so innocent? If you are nigori fan it's time to take a ride on the raw side. WORD: Zesty WINE: Tannin Reds/ Crisp whites BEER: Crisp Ales FOODS: International spice, grilled and salty. $40 (720ml)
