Beau-Zone Layer - Niwa no Uguisu "Daruma"
This sake has been at True Sake from day one. Why? Because it is different and delicious. It's also a "sneaky favorite" whenever I do sake tastings for large groups of people, because it has a depth and richness that speaks to all types of sake drinkers. It's not a light or pristine sake. It's the opposite and that's why I use it as a tool to taste "the other side of sake." Daruma - you have to love the label - is a fat and smooth walk on the rich and savory side. It is a brew with glass presence. It is a masculine sake that jumps at red wine drinkers. It is also named after a Nightingale "Uguisu" that you can find on the cap of the sake. Oh! And several years back a woman walked into the store and thanked me for selling her father's sake. The owner's daughter lives in the Bay Area!
