Beau-Zone Layer – Kirin Koshi No Takumi “Sake Specialist”
Here’s a good news bad news deal! First the bad news: this superb sake only comes in a 300ml offering. The good news is that this Niigata made Junmai reminds sake drinkers that the word “forest floor” does not only apply to the wine world. I love this sake because there are hints of mushrooms and grains and soil and steamed rice. It is by no means fruity. I like to refer to this brew as solid and confident, but extremely drinkable. It is balanced personified. Smooth and earthy I use this sake as a “not one of those typical fruity and floral” sakes that seem to be on every sake list. There is a very nice creaminess that flows on a soft fluid and this brew does well at chilled and room temperature. Also if you like the Junmai Ginjo called “Bride of the Fox” from Kanbara this “Sake Specialist” is made by the same brewery.
