New Store Arrival – Takenotsuyu Nama and Denshin Nama
Takenotsuyu Hakurosuishu “Moon’s Mountain Dew”
From Yamagata Prefecture. Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu.
SMV: +1 Acidity: 1.4 $45/720ml
The nose on this newly released nama is filled with cherry, pear, and candy aromas. We love this brewery so much, and it’s great to finally get their first unpasteurized brew in the States. Plump, bright, chewy, and juicy this brew makes you realize that you are tasting a living sake. Look for hints of pear, crisp apple, and honey clover licks that drink fruity, but not sweet. They grow their own rice and this sake let’s one taste the Yamagata experience known as Dewasansan rice. A superbly balanced nama sake that drinks more evenly out of a larger glass. Clean, round, and layered this brew is an 18% party in the palate. WORD: Balanced WINE: Deep Reds/Bright Whites BEER: Crisp Ales FOODS: International spice, salty and savory, grilled fare.
From Fukui Prefecture. Shiboritate Honjozo Nama SMV: n/a Acidity: n/a
SMV: +5.0 Acidity: 1.2A $31/720ml
The nose on this massive and masculine nama is made up of steamed rice, blueberry, melon, and fruit cup aromas. Talk about a big punch in the mouth! Say hello to a seasonally released sake that is raw and explodes in your mouth. Cocktail drinkers take note! Don’t let the smooth, round, and soft feelings fool you. This tiger roars with a savory flavor that has hints of cooked rice and veggie elements that does not drink like your average fruity nama genshu. This dude does best in a larger glass to push all of that acidity and alc (18%) around to make a rich and bold drinking experience. This is a nama just like your dad used to drink (or your mom if she was ballsy!) and does far better with foods of all types as it is strong and confident and compliments without getting overwhelmed. This nama will warm your cold winter body! WORD: Big WINE: Huge reds/Boozy whites BEER: Stouts FOODS: Meats, savory stews, salty oily bar fare.
