Sake Day 2015 – Summary of the Tenth Anniversary!

Sake Day October 2015a

What a bash! We went big and then we went home! Ha! For one evening the eyes of the sake world were on the very impressive event space called the SF Armory, which has a storied past and seductive here and now! So many records were set this year I do not know where to begin! We poured the most sakes ever! We had more guests than ever! We had more vendors than ever! We had more new craft brewers than ever! And we had more food trucks, chocolate cups of sake, and DJ’s than ever, which were all firsts by the way! Ha!

It truly exceeded our expectations and of course the result is that we got to give the JCCCNC (Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California) the largest check ever as our partner and beneficiary! We also met so many new sake friends! It was such a treat to see such a widespread group of sake purists, rookies, aficionados, newbies, industry folks, and just simply sake fans. Despite being one of the windiest days on record, which messed with our food trucks a little, the party went off without a hitch.

Some highlights were for the first time ever we actually had a kuramoto of a brewery (owner) pour his very own welcome sake to our guests who arrived quite promptly. The owner of Ichinokura had a blast and looked like a proud peacock pouring his brew into our specially designed sake cups that all had a very nice plug for our pending sake bar called True Cup! SF’s very own Sequoia Sake had two tables of amazing sake producing items and anchored our newly featured Craft Sake Section. New friends from Ty-Ku and Hiro Sake threw down some very enjoyable sakes, and our very dear friends from New Mexico (Floating World Sake) filled the room with nama aromas of note and introduced us to their entire new portfolio which will be available soon in the Bay Area.

Many vendors and volunteers read this Newsletter and I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you! This is your event and you knocked it out of the park! We all want to thank you for your enthusiasm and participation, and wanted to confirm the fact that you guys are the blood that runs the body called Sake Day! Thank you so very much!
