I love when a brewery states, “This is our signature sake.” To me, it’s like yelling to the sake market, "This is us, this is who we are!" That is what Hachinohe Shuzo does with their signature brew called Red Label. Certain labels are iconic in the sake industry, and Mutsu Hassen is certainly one of those. This Red Label not only looks bitchin, but it drinks that way too. Using two rice varietals Hanafubuki and Masshigura, this sake starts fruity and ends quickly with lots of lush fruit aromas and flavors. It’s a lively drink. But it’s more than that, it’s solid! Solid? Yup, it drinks with great balance and feeling, and that’s why it goes down so very easily. Solid brand, solid label, and very solid sake, this is a great way for you to taste the meat and potatoes of a sake brewery, to understand their capabilities in one brew. In a word, this is your ticket on the bullet train to taste a little Aomori sake history and essence. All aboard!
