As a retailer, we have to take everything into account when selling sake. Of course the sake itself must be better than good, but we also play in the realm of packaging and label design which affects the overall sale of each brew. Nothing grabs a consumer’s attention better than what we so lovingly call the “Angry Fish.” How cool is that box? How cool is the bottle? How cool is the printed insert that comes inside each box? Pretty damn cool! But, like previously mentioned we would not sell a sake that looks cool but doesn’t taste cool as well! We simply wouldn’t do it. The sake matters, and that is why we also love this sake, because what’s inside is even cooler than what’s on the outside. The Houraisen brand is owned and operated by the Sekiya family in Aichi Prefecture. We sell a lot of their sake in the form of Midnight Moon Junmai Daiginjo and Wa aged nama Junmai Ginjo. And now we have the Angry Fish back in the portfolio, and it’s lucky for you because it rocks. The strength in this JDG is that it is rich in flavor, but light in feeling, so you get full-bodied flavors on a super soft and smooth flow that drinks light and dry. The amino acid level of 0.9 is on the very soft side, so this is a light drinking JDG but again it is rich and extremely creamy. It’s time for the Angry Fish to take a bite out of your sake drinking senses.
