The “Beau-Zone” Layer – Ozeki “Souke Ozakaya”
From Hyogo Prefecture
Junmai Daiginjo
SMV: -3 Acidity: 1.4
Ok Ok! Basically when I picked this brew as my Beau-Zone Layer pick this month I realized that over the past twenty years I’ve helped to make and enable a lot of sake snobs. Face it! You see the name Ozeki and you say, Ummmmm, no thank you. Shame on you (Yes, see the lady ringing the bell marching down the Game of Thrones Set - Shame Shame Shame.) The huge breweries today were once micro-breweries too. They made craft sake. They just made good craft sake so they became popular and grew, and grew into something that you wouldn’t dare drink. Snob! Get over it.
If this Junmai Daiginjo made by hand (not by big machine) is good enough for our True Sake employee’s holiday gift bags, then it’s good enough for you! Yes, Mei and I gifted our team this sake and they LOVED it. “Souke Ozakawa” is Ozeki’s original company name and they refer to this Daiginjo as their masterpiece. And we are fully on board with that. It drinks incredibly smooth, and as they say there is a “clear umami taste.” Absolutely. Please don’t tell our team members the price, because we let them believe that it costs a lot more from a super brewery from a super brewing town and with locally made Yamada. Get ready to take your Snob hat off and put your happy face on.
