Denshin Fuyu Honjozo Nama "Winter"
The nose on the first Nama of the winter and early spring is a ripe collection of grape, lemon, berries, apple, and powdered sugar aromas. A very fun first shiboritate of the season that is zesty, lively, chipy, and brash. Smooth, fat, and frisky this living sake has so many flavors to explore. Look for citrus, green apple, and custard at first glimpse then dig for minerals, vanilla, and snowmelt flavors that are riding on the bright fluid. Sake is supposed to be fun, and this Fuyu is as much snowmelt fun that you will have in your glass all season. And the 18% alcohol content will also keep you warm on these cold winter nights. Another great seasonal release from Denshin. WORD: Snowmelt WINE: Zesty Reds/Crisp Flinty Whites BEER: Crisp Tight Ales FOODS: Spicy fare, international spice, sushi with sauces. (Winter 2019)
The nose on this seasonally released sake (look for the snowman on the bottle) is a fat collection of meaty, veggie, onion, soup, and yeasty aromas. Talk about a fat, fun, and velvety sake. This “snowman” is viscous, plump, and smooth with lots of rich and round dried fruit flavors. Big and beefy it says hello to your palate with a solid and rich smoothness. Not dry and not fruity it just sits ricey, rich, gooey, and very fleshy. It is is smooth with hints of raisins, dried fruit, cooked pear, and sweet rice licks. Seasonally smooth this unpasteurized sake has a very plump alcohol level (18%), but you taste more of the fat action than the booze. So velvety and so Frosty! WORD: Smooth WINE: Soft Reds/Thick whites BEER: Belgian Ales FOODS: Salty and savory pub fare with burgers and fried food with spice. (Winter 2017)
