Ura Gasanryu Honjozo "Koka"
This IWC Honjozo Trophy winner has a grassy and herbal nose with hints of white grapes, blueberry and mint. How can a round, lush, gentle, juicy, and silky sake be so flavorful? I dunno, but this added alcohol brew is at the peak of the smooth sake game as it caresses the palate. So flavorful yet so balanced. Look for mild melon, berry, apple and juicy pear swirls that harmonize. A great example of a honjozo that is in tune, and perhaps the low acidity level gives it that stellar texture play. Smaller glasses bring more flavor impact, and larger vessels bring forth more smoothness. WORD: Smooth WINE: Pinot Noir/Merlot/Soft fat whites BEER: Creamy Ales FOODS: Simple fare with clean flavors. Think steamed or boiled or raw.
