Top Ten List – Ten Sakes That Are Word With The Bird

Top Ten Turkey November 2014

So it’s THAT time of the year folks. You know! The time of year when I implore you to keep your wine in the cellar and actually try something new, something that you would actually be very happy that you did! Take sake to your turkey table this year people. And trust me when I say that rice and water works extremely well with all of those big and savory flavors. And yes I promise that sake will put your wine to shame! It’s a lock!

1. Dewatsuru Kimoto Junmai

  • This rich, round and smooth brew will go so well with turkey and the “taters.” It drinks creamy and savory and you can actually warm it too!

2. Fukuchitose Yamahai Junmai

  • How does a rich and smokey sake sound to go with all of those salty and savory Thanksgiving flavors? This brew is super flavorful and works just like a big bad earthy red wine.

3. Kenbishi Honjozo

  • Thanksgiving means being solid, and no other honjozo in the store is as solid as this guy! Thick, rich and round - a perfect brew to heat up with your dinner.

4. Masumi Okuden Kantsukuri Junmai

  • Turkey Day means food and one of the most food friendly brews in the store is this extremely well made Junmai that is clean, smooth and literally cleans up sloppy flavors so you can actually taste a meal.

5. Cowboy Yamahai Junmai Ginjo

  • Yup! This brew was made for meat and fowl! Period! It works trust me. It is rich and fat and filled with savory tones that will make that bird gobble.

6. Jinyu “Brave Warrior” Junmai Ginjo

  • This is a purists play! This sake is a mystery as it is extremely flavorful and has so much feeling, but it is all over the place as per trying to tell what you just tasted and that will be so much fun with turkey, stuffing, taters, gravy and cranberry on your fork!

7. Kirinzan Junmai Ginjo

8. Kuro Kabuto “Samurai Helmet” Muroka Junmai Daiginjo

  • This solid Daiginjo has an acidity of 2.0 which is very high and works like a big red wine. What I like is that it reminds you that you are drinking sake and not grape juice.

9. Ten To Chi “Heaven and Earth” Junmai Daiginjo

  • How about an earthy Daiginjo sake that has hints of brown sugar for that turkey dinner? You bet! This brew has flavor written all over it and don’t forget to serve it at room temperature to act as that flavor blanket!

10. Chiyomusubi Goriki Junmai Muroka Nama Genshu

  • If thanksgiving is going to be loaded, you need loaded sake. This nama is a powerhouse of feeling and flavor. Like a whole turkey in your glass.
