Let’s hear it for the unassuming! Let’s put our hands together for those sakes that don’t scream for attention or play the branding game. This Beau-Zone is for a sake that you don’t even know exists, but wait, yes you do and we all just forget about it.
The brand is pretty tough to say, “Chiyomusubi.” But, you might remember it because we sell a lot of their cups – Kitaro and Oyaji. The Prefecture doesn’t produce a lot of sake, so maybe you forget Tottori? And there is a very good chance that you don’t remember the rice varietal called Goriki with all of the bigger sexier names out there like Yamadanishiki and Omachi. So we feel you for forgetting this sake that translates to “Powerful Energy.”
Basically when we were discussing which sake to pick this month Mei said, “It’s so good with so much flavor and impact,” and that’s what we are talking about. My favorite aspect of Goriki is the viscosity of the fluid. It is chewy but light, it is round but expansive, and it’s so smooth, but a quality mouthful of flavor smoothness. The price is plump, but this sake easily drinks like a $150+ and it punches way above its weight class. The packaging is understated, but if it was all tricked out it might be one of the top selling JDG in the store at that price point. I don’t know, but I like it and I gift this sake often. So should you, but first to yourself!
